DR. SHELLIE: How did you get your start in fashion?
EVA: It began with my love for fashion. I wanted to try to change the industry to include women with their natural bodies shapes and sizes.
DR. SHELLIE: I have been able to walk the runways for you many times over the years and one of my memories was the Boston fashion show experience. Can you describe the Boston show?
EVA: In one word? Overload. I believe that the experience in the Boston fashion show was amazing with a minor hiccups, but in the end, I think that I was able to go out there with a wonderful team of people, show a great line, and I think it was a learning experience on how to work in other cities. My models are diverse and of all body shapes and different ways of being “beautiful”.
DR. SHELLIE: I know you are based in Pittsburgh but you have shown your fashions in multiple places including NYC, Correct?
EVA: Yes, I have shown my designs on five major runways in New York City. There is a different energy in buzz in the New York fashion world that can only be felt in NYC. We even turned a major street in New York into an impromptu fashion show. Because it was NYC, it worked!
DR. SHELLIE: You have been a huge supporter of mine and the Global Sisterhood non-profit. I thank you for that. What made you want to help do designs and style both the Global Sisterhood and myself through Inspiring Lives Magazine and the other magazines around the world?
EVA: I am very passion-driven. I love to work within the in the industry while helping support women. Being able to dress, style, and design for women who are involved in the Global Sisterhood has made a very big impact on me. I adore supporting women all over the world. And you, Dr. Shellie are one of the keys to help me find a way to do that. It has been amazing. It has inspired me to be more giving of my time to support women and all facets of their life.
DR. SHELLIE: Where do you see yourself, let’s say five years from now?
EVA: Well, my goal is that when I started working in the fashion industry is to show my designs in a big way. I realized that I can’t take what I know with me when I’m gone. If I would have known what I know now, twenty years ago, I probably be further in the fashion world. But, I am now trying to give back to people that are starting out in the emerging designer world. I want to be more of a mentor. I can show them what I had to overcome so that instead of going through 20 steps, they just can go down to ten steps. My goal would be to leave a legacy of that. In the industry, they call me “Mama Bear” because I’m, like their mom and it’s like a family. That is how I feel with the Global Sisterhood and working with Inspiring Lives Magazine. We’re putting our hands out to help others and bring them up with us as we rise.
DR. SHELLIE: As a Pittsburgh designer how are you reaching out locally even though you have been recognized nationally?
EVA: I think to myself… How can I help change Pittsburgh in my industry? I’d like to bring it to the level that New York, LA, and all those cities that have a huge fashion presence. I would like to see that happen in Pittsburgh. I think it can happen here. And I hope that I can help bring that here with the right people on board, it could happen. In fact, I am the co-director of Pittsburgh Fashion Week. I feel that this one step in the right direction to that future.
DR. SHELLIE: I heard that you wanted to do something special for our Pittsburgh readers?
EVA: Yes, for our 2022 Pittsburgh Fashion Week, we are offering a 50% discount for the Pittsburgh Fashion Week events as our way of thanking the women of Pittsburgh for all the greatness they bring to our city.
