Cuban-born classical guitarist Laura Mazon Franqui has announced the upcoming release of her new album Rojo — a deeply personal project exploring memory, grief, identity, and Hispanic and Latin American musical traditions through the voice of the classical guitar.

Ahead of the release, Laura will appear in a major billboard campaign in New York City’s iconic Times Square this June through a collaboration with Karat, celebrating her work as an artist and creator. The Miami-based guitarist has also become a growing voice for women in music through her involvement with the World Woman Foundation and initiatives supporting greater visibility for women musicians and guitarists worldwide.

Now based in Coral Gables, Laura has steadily built an international reputation for performances that combine emotional storytelling with technical artistry. Having studied at the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music and worked with renowned figures including Pepe Romero and Scott Tennant, her career has taken her across the United States, Spain, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Cuba.

I believe in taking the guitar beyond orthodoxy and purism,” says Laura. “Music should tell stories, preserve memory, and create emotional connection.”

At the heart of Rojo is a tribute to Laura’s late aunt, celebrated Cuban soprano Conchita Franqui, whose influence first inspired her musical journey. The album also honours Grammy Award-winning composer Claudia Montero, a close mentor and friend whose encouragement helped shape the spirit behind the project.

The release also features Canción by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, further reflecting the album’s cinematic and emotionally driven approach to classical guitar music.

An Augustine Strings artist and Cordoba Guitars artist, Laura’s influence continues to grow internationally, with a combined digital audience of more than 70,000 followers across platforms.

With Rojo, Laura Mazon Franqui continues expanding the possibilities of classical guitar while remaining deeply rooted in cultural storytelling, emotional honesty, and artistic innovation.
