The fall season has arrived, and we look forward to welcoming the fresh, autumn days while hearing the crisp colored leaves crunching at our feet.  We love snuggling into our cozy woolly sweaters while we head out to the local fall fair savoring a pumpkin spiced latte.  I personally look forward to this every single year!  Not just the fall colors but the latte!  This autumn season is all about change, venturing beyond our comfort zones and anticipating magnificent new horizons.

Most of us create new changes in the fall season as it seems to be embedded in our psyche.  This is due to deep-seated habits that were formed when we were very young. Remember the very first day of kindergarten and the memories you can still recall?   Every time a change occurs in our lives, we have the greatest opportunity to escape that dreaded ‘comfort zone’ and in so doing we experience the thrill of a new vibrant life while we continue to grow & prosper.

Did I happen to mention that breaking out of a comfort zone can be difficult?  That makes total sense as human beings we tend to resist change.  There seems to be an innate anxiety, a nervousness that takes place whenever we deviate from the ‘norm,’ whether it is a child just starting their first day of school or a university student beginning their academic studies.  How about the apprehension of a brand-new relationship, perhaps embracing a new sport, or an adult embarking on a brand-new career.

It is any situation that challenges us to do & be something more than we already are.

Our lives would become stagnant from a lack of growth otherwise.  Sadly, many people decide to stay in that mould ALL their life.   Never changing, never growing.  It takes a certain amount of determination in order to release the ‘familiar’ and a seemingly secure situation to embrace something brand new.

People can go through their entire lives never stepping out of their comfort zones and I believe they live to regret it. If you are afraid of change understand that fear is merely a mental obstacle that disappears the moment you decide to take action and step forward.  By doing so you’ll get in the ‘habit’ of breaking thru those challenges and therefore can begin to easily adapt to future change.  And, from my own experience the moment you do commit to taking action I promise that stepping out of a comfort zone will become much easier to navigate. In order words, that belief that says ‘you can’t do it’ will magically disappear.

I encourage you to take a step forward to experience the exhilaration of personal or professional growth.  If you are in school excel by giving it your best, invest in yourself by studying personal development.  Take a night school class, enjoy a new hobby or commit to an exercise routine that you have been putting off.  The health & maintenance of your body is just as important as the development of your mental state.

The perfect time to embrace change is NOW, this season!  So, while you are contemplating that next big challenge enjoy a brisk walk out in the warmth of the fall sunshine & remember to savor your favorite latte along the way!  My newest book, “How to Think and Succeed by Empowering your Mind” teaches people among many empowering tips, is it to break out of comfort zones and remove self-defeating negative habit patterns.   Find out where you can pick up a copy here:   www.lorigradley.com
