The historic PPG Glass Factory, built circa 1883, has been transformed into a modern industrial marvel, now home to the iconic Iron City Beer, a brand Pittsburghers have cherished for over 160 years as well as the Iron City Distilling & Iron City Stage at the Brewery Concerts and Events.

The story begins in 1883, when the building that now houses the brewery was originally erected as Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company #1 in Creighton, PA. Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company was the first commercially successful U.S. plate glass maker. It later became PPG Industries in 1968.

Mike Carota, Pittsburgh Brewing Brew Master has been with the brewery for 50 years and is an icon in the beer industry. Mike has been instrumental with quality and production of Pittsburgh Brewing Brands since 1975. Brandon Mayes, Pittsburgh Brewing’s Director of Brewing, has been stirring up magic at Pittsburgh Brewing Company since July 2021. Mayes started brewing in the comfort of his home, while working in the biology department at Dartmouth College. Soon his hobby turned into a full-blown passion, leading him to kickstart his professional brewing career in 2006 as a lab Technician at Long Trail Brewing in Vermont.
Iron City Distilling: Honoring Tradition with Artisanal Craftsmanship
Iron City Distilling is dedicated to reviving time-honored pre-Prohibition American whiskey traditions.
