“Inspiring” is just one of the many words I would use to describe my experience at Inspiring Lives Magazine and the Global Sisterhood. I came to Inspiring Lives Magazine  to shadow the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Shellie Hipsky, for my school’s Career Mentoring Project and I left completely fulfilled on my experience. I learned so much more about what goes on in the journalism world and how a magazine comes together. Not only did I get the information I needed for my project but I was also able to learn about the deeper meaning of this magazine.

Just sitting in the interview and listening to all the different stories that Dr. Hipsky had to share was truly inspiring. It made me realize how lucky I am to live in a place where I have freedom and treated equally, but it also made me realize how much more I could be doing to help others  because I have this privilege.

One of the other journalists who was there during my interview was Kara Peters. Just through the way she talked about her work I could tell that she truly cared about what she was doing and the impact she was making. Peters said,” What I stand for up to my core is that every story matters. I don’t care if you’re a janitor and you have a story, I think that it’s important and it matters.”

While researching about Dr. Hipsky, I found a quote where she said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” I think that this is the perfect quote to reflect on the values of this magazine. They use their platform to share the stories for those who can’t share their own. This isn’t just inspirational for me but anyone who reads this magazine. Overall my experience shadowing left me thinking deeper and filled with ideas on how I can help the world through my writing.
