You’re an addict.

That’s a tough way to start an article about successful weight loss, but it’s time someone spoke to the inner you that’s being run (and ruined) by your compulsive eating.

Most of us been on more diets than we can count. For a percentage of the population who aren’t compulsive eaters, diets actually work. If you cut down the number of calories that you’re eating in a day, over time the weight should come off. But what about the rest of us?

COMPULSIVE EATING

There’s another component to our cycle of eating/dieting/purging/eating/self-loathing and shame. It’s a behavioral addiction we call compulsive eating. If your emotions trigger your overeating, those emotions are connected to your subconscious. So whatever’s going on inside your body is reflected on your menu. That’s why we said you were an addict. Whether it’s food, alcohol, drugs, sex, tobacco and exercise even. Basically, a compulsion is anything we do over and over and over again that interferes with our highest functioning of our life and well-being.

WHY THERAPY FAILS

We go to see a psychotherapist for help. We talk and talk about our thoughts and feelings associated with eating but talking about it in the abstract doesn’t connect you to the inner anxiety and fear. The place to look is inside yourself and notice what you’re feeling when you eat – or when you want to eat – rather than face the feelings that you don’t want to feel. Do you have a knot in your stomach? Or a tightening in your chest? Pay attention to it. What are the thoughts, feelings, emotions or images that might come up for you when you tune into that sensation? Are there any other physical sensations you associate with eating? Write them down. Work on them. Dig down to the root of the problem.

THERE IS A HEALING WAY

If you seriously want to lose the weight and create habits you can maintain once and for all, find a program that involves your whole being. A program such as: https://masteryunderpressure.newzenler.com/?affiliate=G1Mslk where you can talk from your mind; tune into your body; experience the feelings. That’s the Trifecta of true weight control. And you can start as soon as your next snack.
